I’m writing to update you on progress following our purchase of land in the vicinity of your home in 2021 and the subsequent site walks and consultations with neighbours and other stakeholders held in early 2023.
We are delighted to let you know that tree planting on our land commenced last week with the aim of being completed by Christmas.
The planting plan on the following page shows the planting areas and those remaining as grassland, including both the Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and the buffer zones around each.
We are planting 40,000 trees which are a mix of over 20 broadleaf species, half of which have been grown in our own tree nursery. Species include oak, silver birch, field maple, hornbeam, hazel, wild pear and dogwood.
Due to the lack of onsite winter parking, planting will, in the main, be undertaken by our staff team.
Community tree planting
Whilst regular volunteer tree planting opportunities at this site are not possible, we are pleased to offer a community planting event on Friday 6th December from 10am – 1.30pm for local people able to join us on foot, bicycle, or be dropped off.
No experience is necessary. Everything is provided, and our friendly team will talk you through the process and show you everything you need to help grow the Forest. Do ensure you come prepared for the weather and ground conditions.
